12/12/2004: Fishing fair participant shatters Egypt's fishing record!
At the Fourth Karnak Fishing Fair, idnic overtook MissWendy's record, a 157 db Chromis, by fishing a 189 monster Abdju! Her secret? Eating some of FFS's magic recipes before warping to her favourite fishing spot for even more amazing fishing!
Congratulations from the FFS team, except perhaps from MissWendy ;-)

The Fourth Karnak Fishing Fair, held on Sunday 12th december, is over.

The fourth Karnak Fishing Fair is over. An other strong success, especially regarding the record-breaking 189 abdju who won the competition!
You can read all about the First Fair and the Second Fair.

Services provided during the fair

Egyptians are provided with a long-lasting, powerful speed recipe. Though the stats cannot be known in advance and FFS makes no garranties, the seventh fair recipe is a +9 strength, -10 dexterity, +71 speed recipe with a duration of 70 minutes and we will be aiming for something similar next time. The speed boost is a result of a new speed base we tested, however the negative dex is unexpected. We feel the neg dex can be easily make up by storing your catches in a bonfire. But we will attempt to bring the dex back up. During the first fair, fishes over 100 db were not uncommon and the number of dbs caught with one serving was from 1000-5000 db.

In addition, a separate carry recipe is provided as well; its precise stats cannot be known in advance, but it should be comparable to the last one: 48 min of effect, 5000 db of goods carried. The Fishing Fair Society also provides on-the-spot public carpentry shops and brick racks should you want to build chests for your catches, and will provide 4 copper wires to any fisherman needing them for an huge chest.

Cost

In order to help cover the price of the recipe, fishermen will be required to contribute something for every serving they consume. Your contribution can be any mixture of the goods below, for a total of 12 FFSU. An FFSU is worth:

  • 1 brass, steel
  • 3 ash
  • 2 potash, iron, papyrus paper, canvas
  • 1 bronze (not accepted currently due to overstock)
  • herbs (check the list for the worth of herbs)

Example of possible contributions:

  • 12 brass
  • 6 steel and 12 canvas
  • 18 ash, 2 brass and 8 papyrus paper
  • 3000 GS note

The carry recipe is free to anyone having payed for the speed recipe.

Location

The Fishing Fair is held in the lake south of Karnak's ULead, chosen because it offers nearly every varieties of fishes (including phagrus) and is only 2-3 minutes from a CS. The FFS's compound is at the western tip, close to the ULead. Coordinates: 1444, -1287.

Fishing Competion

A fishing competition, reserved to people using the provided recipe, is also being held during the event. Fishermen wanting to participate will simply have to show their trophy to a FSS member, who will verify the owner and the date of the trophy.
The winner of the competition will be awarded the sum of 5000 Goodscrip, the currency of the The Goods shop in RSO. As I am writing this, this would allow the winner to purchase 25 iron from them, for exemple.

Organisers

For the moment, the FFS team is composed of Quotidian, inachis, Sahar, GooDieZ, kaayru, Zignotrop, Xeros and Divinity. Kinniken has currently dropped from the game due to RL-overload. We are still looking for a few more organisers for futur fairs. All they will be required to do is to help with the distribution of the recipe and the recording of competition entries - Quotidian heads the pre-fair organisation. Please contact him in game if you are interested.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Fishing is avatar-dependant. How can you make sure fishermen will be there at the right time to benefit from the recipe?

We can't. However, most people are able to get good results at the lake near the FFS at night, and we encourage egyptians to try and fish without recipe a few minutes to check they are getting some before asking for some of the recipe.

Do you garranty a quantity of fish caught?

No; read the question above. The results of the first fair and second fair speaks for themselves though.

Don't you feel your prices are too high? / Isn't the value of the contributions bigger than that of the recipe? / Why did you raise your prices between the fairs?

FFS's prices are rather high and have indeed risen between the two first fairs. This is due to an effort by FFS to generate a profit in order to be able to form a reserve of herbs and thus be able to cook new recipes without having to rush to the stores everytime. We believe that this is necessary to prevent food shortages on fair days, and the very close rush to buy herbs for a second recipe during the second fair re-enforce that. FFS members currently do not earn anything from the fairs save free helping of the recipe.
In any cases, we believe that the value of the fishes an average fisher can bring back home after eating our recipe far exceed that of the contribution, and so far it seems the fishers agree :)
